Small tuft of grassy foliage give rise to numerous slender wand of purple. Blooms in late summer. Very different than the typical Liatris.

A traditional prairie plant, Rough Blazing Star is a staple food of mammals and insects alike, and is a favorite of cows, deer, bees, and butterflies. This beneficial plant can be found in parks, prairie restoration projects, and along highways. Native Americans used to make a tea to treat headaches and snakebites.
